Purpose of the Program
The Department of Special Education at Ege University offers a comprehensive four-year undergraduate programdesigned to prepare teachers and professionals to work with individuals with disabilities. Our curriculum integratestheoretical and practical coursework, focusing on the development of individualized education programs tailored tothe unique needs of each student.

Special Education Undergraduate Program
Our primary goal is to train competent and compassionate special education teachers. The program equips teacher candidates with essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to provide educational support to individuals with special needs and their families. Key objectives include developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, engaging in research and inquiry, and adhering to ethical values in special education practices.
Teacher candidates have the opportunity to specialize in various areas, including intellectual and developmental disabilities,hearing impairments, visual impairments, physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disabilities, and gifted and talented. These specializations ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to support individuals with special needs and theirfamilies using scientific and evidence-based
Graduates of our program earn the title of "Special Education Teacher." They are trained to meet the needs of individuals with special educational requirements and their families. Our graduates are equipped to identify individual differences, conduct educational assessments, and implement appropriate educational programs. Upongraduation, special education teachers can work in schools affiliated with the ministry of national education, or special education and rehabilitation centers with their bachelor's degree.
The program duration is four years/eight semesters. Student admission is based on the results of the HigherEducation Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted by the Measurement, Selection, and Placement Center (ÖSYM), using the SÖZ score type. In recent years, the quota has been set at 60 students, with an additional two seats reserved for top graduates of their schools each year. Throughout the four-year/eight-semester program, teacher candidates are responsible for special education, professional knowledge, and general culture courses. The program is structured to enable students to assess andteach individuals with special needs using appropriate methods and techniques. Teacher candidates also participatein practical courses, including classroom observations and internships under the guidance of experienced educators.
Ege University offers students the opportunity to study abroad through the Erasmus+ and Mevlana exchangeprograms. These programs are organized by the Ege University International Relations Coordinator and are conducted in accordance with the university's Exchange Programs Directive. Transfers are conducted in accordance with the Transfer Guide published by the Ege University Student Affairs Directorate.
