Guidance and Counseling
Purpose of the Program
The purpose of the Guidance and Counseling Undergraduate Program is to train contemporarycounselors who effectively provide counseling and guidance services for individuals' educational, professional,personal-social development and wellbeing in various institutions and organizations; adhere to professional ethical principles, rules and laws; are sensitive to cultural differences, and follow scientific developments in the field. For thispurpose, undergraduate and graduate programs are carried out within the Department. Graduates are employed in theMinistry of Education, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Family and Social Services, university counseling centers, and various public and private institutions and organizations related to mental health.
The Guidance and Counseling Bachelor’s Program, which was first accredited for five years by the Association of Evaluation and Accreditation of Techer Education Programs (EPDAD) on 06.07.2018, was re-accredited fora period of three years until 01.05.2026 with the new evaluation made in 2023. The education period of the Guidance and Counseling Bachelor’s Program is four years, excluding one-year foreign language preparatory education.30% of the courses in the program are taught in English. The Guidance and Counseling Undergraduate Program, updated by the Guidance and Counseling Department in 2021, taking into account international and national psychological counselor competencies, consists of five competency areas namely "Human Development and Psychological Foundations, Social and Cultural Foundations, Educational Foundations, Counseling and Assistance Relationship, Research and Evaluation, Professional Development/Orientation and Ethics". The Guidance and Counseling Undergraduate Program received the YÖK Barrier-Free Program Award in 2022. Additionally,Braille alphabets were added to name signs to increase accessibility in offices. Mevlana and Erasmus programs are available. Students are accepted into the program with equal weight. The program has a quota of 50 students for 2024, with a 2023 YKS Base Score of 389 and a Ceiling Score of 429 Student admission to graduateprograms and education periods are carried out according to the conditions stated in the Ege University Postgraduate Education Regulations.
